Health and Safety Risk Assessments

Site-specific risk assessments that identify significant hazards, evaluate existing controls and set out proportionate actions to reduce risk.

Health and safety risk assessment

Every workplace contains hazards arising from the way work is organised and carried out. A suitable and sufficient risk assessment provides the foundation for understanding those hazards, evaluating the level of risk and deciding which controls are needed to protect people from harm.

Employers must assess risks to employees and anyone else who may be affected by their activities. Organisations employing five or more people must also record the significant findings. An effective assessment supports this legal duty while giving managers clearer oversight of workplace conditions and the actions needed to maintain control.

Risk assessments lose their value when they are generic, outdated or based on assumptions about how work should be completed. Important hazards can be missed when the assessment process does not consider actual working conditions, non-routine activities or the experience of the people carrying out the work.

Principal Risk works closely with your managers and employees to examine how activities are undertaken, evaluate the controls already in place and identify proportionate improvements. You receive a site-specific risk assessment, supported by a prioritised action plan that helps your organisation turn findings into measurable improvements.
